It takes a lot of willpower to sit and study for the bar exam day after day, especially since just about anything else is more fun.

So, it is important to boost your willpower as much as you can.

According to Kelly McGonigal, the author of The Willpower Instinct, nutrition plays a huge role in maintaining strong willpower.

She argues, citing to psychologists and nutritionists, that the best way to keep your willpower strong is to keep your body well-fueled with food that will give you lasting energy and avoid problems with blood sugar levels.

McGonigal recommends low-glycemic foods to provide long-term energy. Low-glycemic foods include lean proteins, nuts and beans, high-fiber cereal grains, and most fruits and vegetables.

Basically, you want to eat whole, unprocessed foods.  (More details in this post about foods that help you focus.)

As a side note, McGonigal discusses scientific studies that show a quick jolt of sugar will increase willpower in an emergency, but when the blood sugar drops, your willpower goes out the window.

Obviously, candy bars are not a long-term solution.  Sorry.
